Between 1995 and 1997, he undertook a specialisation in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at Newcastle University.

Continuing his education in the United States, Dr Parvazi completed his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic between 1997 and 2002; during this period, he obtained a Master of Science (MS) in Orthopaedics from the Mayo Foundation. Between 2002 and 2003, he successfully completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Hip Society-Muller Foundation in Bern, Switzerland.

Dr Parvazi, who spent a significant part of his academic and clinical career at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, held the positions of Associate Professor and Professor at this institution between 2003 and 2023. With over 30 years’ experience in orthopaedic surgery, Prof. Dr. Parvazi has performed more than 10,000 joint replacements, over 2,000 hip joint preservation surgeries and more than 1,000 revision surgeries for infections throughout his career.

The International Joint Center (IJC): A Global Hub for Orthopedic Excellence

The International Joint Center (IJC) was established in 2024 within the Acıbadem Healthcare Group as a global powerhouse in orthopedics, led by founding partners Prof. Dr. Javad Parvazi (USA), Prof. Samih Tarabichi, Prof. Remzi Tözün, and Prof. İbrahim Tuncay. Realizing the vision of Acıbadem’s founder, Mehmet Ali Aydınlar, the center combines international clinical excellence with Turkey’s world-class medical infrastructure to provide patient-centered, evidence-based care. Based in Istanbul -a global meeting point for healthcare- the IJC is dedicated to setting new international standards in orthopedic surgery, making the region a premier destination for joint replacement and preservation. Guided by Dr. Parvazi’s 30 years of experience and over 10,000 successful surgeries, the IJC specializes in Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) treatment, and Joint Preservation. In close collaboration with Acıbadem University, the center drives the future of medicine through pioneering research in Genomics, AI, and Tissue Regeneration. This unique synergy of high-volume surgical precision and cutting-edge innovation ensures that every patient receives a highly personalized, safe, and effective treatment plan designed to return them to an active life with confidence.

Hip Replacement and Preservation

Hip Replacement and Preservation

Hip replacement and preservation are specialized surgical interventions designed to restore joint function and eliminate chronic pain by addressing structural damage within the hip joint. Hip Replacement involves removing diseased bone and cartilage and replacing them with high-tech prosthetic components -utilizing total, partial, or minimally invasive techniques- to create a smooth-moving, friction-free joint. In contrast, Hip Preservation focuses on “joint-sparing” methods, such as arthroscopy or precision bone reshaping, to repair natural tissues and correct anatomical imbalances before irreversible arthritis sets in.

Periprosthetic Joint Infection

Periprosthetic Joint Infection

Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) is a serious but treatable complication where bacteria or fungi colonize the area surrounding a joint implant. These pathogens often form a protective “biofilm” -a resilient, slimy layer- that shields them from the body’s natural immune response and standard antibiotic treatments. Because this biofilm makes the infection persistent, successful management requires a combination of advanced molecular diagnostics and specialized surgical strategies. The ultimate goal of treatment is to eradicate the pathogen, preserve the surrounding bone, and restore lasting joint functionality.

Total Knee Replacement

Total Knee Replacement

Knee replacement surgery is an orthopedic intervention designed to alleviate debilitating pain and stiffness caused by arthritis, thereby restoring a patient’s ability to walk, climb stairs, and perform daily tasks. This procedure can involve a partial knee replacement to address localized damage or a total knee replacement for comprehensive joint resurfacing. During the process, the worn ends of the thighbone and shinbone are reshaped and fitted with durable metal and plastic implants that function as a smooth-moving, artificial joint.
